Many years ago, Denmark’s second largest forest was home to the notorious Robbers of Rold, who made life unsafe for travelers. We have joined forces with the descendants of the original robbers to offer an exciting, and highly original forest walk in the footsteps of the original robbers. Of course we can’t reveal everything, but we can guarantee that you will encounter all sorts of fun and surprising things.
We meet at the assembly point on the outskirts of the forest before setting off for the Robbers’ Den. You are greeted by the Robber Queen, who is your guide on the walk through the forest, and who along the way tells all sorts of gruesome and bloody stories about the forest and robbers. When you arrive at the Robbers’ Den in the heart of the forest, you can take part in a variety of competitive games, such as long sawing, axe hurling and archery, prior to a delicious robbers’ banquet and good drinks. During the meal, the robbers continue the entertainment with music, song and sketches. Everything takes place beneath the treetops, but under large canvas canopies, which means that rain cannot stop all the fun you’re having in the company of the robbers.
There are many ways to reach the assembly point and you can also combine the robber event with other activities, both before and after. Prior to the Robbers of Rold event, your guests can visit Thingbæk mines of limes stone, which now operates as a sculpture museum. Here you can wander around in the atmospheric glow of 3,000 candles and view the impressive lime stone sculptures of the Cimbrer Bull (an Aalborg statue) and the Gefion Fountain (an Aalborg landmark) in the vaulted mines. The robber event is very informal, but a unique and memorable one, which only a few people have experienced before. It’s certainly something you’ll remember and talk about for some time to come.
