The Mild Coast - or more correctly, a part of the Danish mainland known as south-east Vendsyssel - features the best of the Danish countryside.

From the white, child-friendly, sandy beaches on the mild Kattegat coast to lovely, shady inland woods set among grassy meadows and marshes. Enjoy the lively activity of the towns as well as the cosy atmosphere of small villages and old harbour and fishing hamlets.

The countryside

The surrounding countryside is characterised by the sea and Ice Age’s influence. Much of the surrounding inland area is raised seabed from the Stone Age.
There are many lagoons along the coast which attract a variety of water birds. Golden Eagles and Blue Harriers are among the many kinds of birds that can be seen in the area.

The beaches

The beaches between Hals and Hou are some of the most child-friendly beaches to be found in Northern Europe. The beaches are car-free, the waves are generally lower than those on the west coast and the beaches slope very gently into the water.
The sand is clean and white and there are Blue Flags on the beaches at Hou, Møllestenen and Bisnap.

The Limfjord

The Limfjord is Denmark’s longest fjord and Hals marks the eastern opening into the Kattegat. The Limfjord is a popular area for yachting and fishing.

It takes just 5 minutes by ferry to cross the 600 m across the fjord from Hals harbour to Himmerland. There is access to the fjord at Gaaser, and at Skiveren, approximately 8 and 12 km from Hals.

The harbours

Hals harbour
Capacity for approx. 150 yachts. It is in a magnificant setting where the Kattegat and Limfjord meet. The harbour is encircled by a number of shops and eating places.

Hou harbour
The yachting harbour is uniquely placed between the dunes and two beaches. Hou is a charming little town with eating places and galleries.
