Who associates the Lille Vildmose – the “Little Wild Bog” - area with the ancient Litorina Sea, herring fishing in the Middle Ages, ground mists, Steen Steensen Blicher’s short story “Love in Vildmose,” drop zones during the occupation of 1940-45, the establishment of public finance after World War 2, or bog oak sculptures? Yes! There are many good reasons to get to know our area and its people.

The Lille Vildmose – the name means “Little Wild Bog” in English -- area is just 10-15 minutes drive from Aalborg. It is a unique natural and cultural area with uncommon ecosystems and cultural relics from forgotten times. Combined, these make up a common historical identity that has left a deep imprint on the locality.
The limestone cliffs, such as Kjællingbjerg Cliff and the cliffs between Gudumlund and Storvorde show the extent of the Litorina Sea, and how far the landscape has risen since it receded.

Several smaller manor houses, each with its own historical background, show the importance of agriculture over the centuries. Small canal systems from Lille Vildmose connect the area with one of Danish history’s greatest industrial stories in the 1700s: the Gudumlund Factories (today the area in and around Gudumholm) started by the Danish industrialist von Buchwald.

The little angling site at Stejlgabet in Dokkedal is a reminder of herring fisheries of the Middle Ages. Today, it is a preserved and incredibly beautiful swimming spot at the foot of the Mulbjerg hills, and has a small exhibition about fishing.
The extraction of peat and, later, sphagnum has marked the landscape – quite literally roads to Kongerslev, Mou Bro and Gudumholm for transporting these wonderful products.
Today, we are trying to preserve these glimpses of the past, and our natural and cultural assets, not just for ourselves, but also for our descendants. To that end, we are working hard to have part of Lille Vildmose declared a national park.
The local splendours, partly bordered by the Limfjord, Kattegat, and Lindenborg stream, are a great place for visitors. Nearby dining and accommodations, swimming and activities – Lille Vildmose is the ideal place to enjoy a holiday.

"Kærlighed i Vildmosen" Have you read the novel by St.Steensen Blicher...
When you visit the Tofte Tårnet just north of the small town Øster Hurup on the southern outskirts of Lille Vildmose and hear the bell of the deer, it is almost like there is an echo from the beginning of time...
