The Danish Emigration Archives

About one out of every ten Danes emigrated overseas during the great emigration boom before Word War I. A total of more then half a million Danes have left Denmark.

Each year many people of Danish decent visit the old country, and frequently take the occasion to seek out the locality where their family lived before emigrating; some just want to contact relatives, but others may wish to trace their ancestors.

The Danish Emigration Archives in Aalborg are the central Danish collection on emigration history. The Archives are also the best starting point for people of Danish decent who wish to trace their ancestors.
