Lindholm Høje Burial site and habitation from the Germanic Iron Age. 682 graves, 150 ship settings, rests of the agriculture from the Viking Age. North of the burial ground lay the associated village where the finds include remains of houses, fences, wells and fire pits.
The area was subject to drifting sand and in about AD 1000, the whole burial ground became covered with sand. This meant that the stone markings and a newly-ploughed field were preserved until today.
Many of the discoveries are presented in the museum’s unusual exhibits. Today, Lindholm Høje is recognised as Scandinavia’s largest Viking burial ground with more than 700 graves.
