One of the experiences mentioned below could be just the very detail guests remember as a fun extra after a successful and well-organised conference. The options are infinite…
Harold Bluetooth
Capacity: 800 guests
Aalborg has developed from a traditional industrial city to an academic, technological stronghold, where research and development of the city’s academic and research institutions are playing a decisive role in this innovative environment. For example, it was in this very environment that Bluetooth technology was developed. The name “Bluetooth” originates from Viking times and this period was an important chapter in Aalborg’s history. On Aalborg’s highest hill is Northern Europe’s largest Viking burial ground, Lindholm Heights.
Be our guests at an historic after meeting: a dinner with Harald Bluetooth. This event is organised in association with the Lindholm Viking Burial and Settlement Ground and takes you back centuries to the period when the Vikings ruled.
In contrast to the past, today’s Vikings actually seem to be rather pleasant and accommodating hosts. They greet you on arrival at the Viking Burial and Settlement Ground with a mug of mead, served in a clay beaker. In addition to experiencing a live portrayal of life in Viking times, guests themselves can also have a go at a variety of Viking activities. The event is rounded off with a genuine Viking banquet, with food served in a completely authentic and particularly festive way.
During the summer you can see a special performance of Viking Burial and Settlement Ground’s very popular open air Viking play, performed on the hills by a combination of professionals and talented amateurs.
What about a robbery?
Capacity: 800 guests
This is something unique, something you will not experience anywhere else than in North Jutland. Guided by descendants of the notorious Robbers of Rold Skov, go on an unusual hike through Denmark’s largest forest, Rold. The group assembles at a meeting place in front of the robbers’ camp, on the outskirts of the forest. Here they are received by the Robber Maid, who is the guide for this unique hike through the forest, in which you will learn everything about the forest and its robbers. For obvious reasons we cannot give everything away, but what we can tell you is that the trek is full of amusing, surprising and authentic details. The hike leads you to the robbers’ camp right in the middle of the forest. Here guests are put to the test in a variety of amusing competitions – for example, long sawing, axe throwing, archery etc. before sitting down to a lovely robbers dinner, washed down by the appropriate drink. The atmosphere is charming, sitting under the treetops, sheltered by large canvas awnings, so the robbers’ hospitality cannot be disturbed by the elements.
During the lunch or dinner, of course depending on the time of day, the robbers continue to entertain you, accompanying your meal with singing, music and other kinds of performance. While this robber event is very informal, it is at the same time a unique and memorable experience, which your guests definitely will never have tried before.
There are a variety of options for getting to the assembly point for this event. It can also be combined with other activities, both before and after. For example, you could be collected at the Thingbæk Kalkminer (chalk quarry), long since closed, but now a sculpture museum. This makes for an atmospheric start to a unique event. Illuminated by the flames of 3000 candles, visitors can wander round and view the impressive plaster sculptures – for example, of Cimbretyren (the Cimbre bull) and Gefionspringvandet (the Gefion fountain) – in the vault-like pits.
Culinary Institute
Capacity: 130 guests
The Culinary Institute offers gastronomic team-building courses on either a day or evening basis. They believe in using the highest quality, fresh ingredients. The courses take place in the institute’s specially designed kitchen environments, where visitors create their own gourmet menu, under the careful guidance of the institute’s gastronomic teachers. The day concludes with visitors enjoying the meal they have prepared. Along the way there are special competitions, in which guests are put to the test in the institute’s own TV kitchen, where their efforts can be filmed and taken home for future entertainment and amusement. Each course is individually organised, so that the process suits the participants’ abilities and expectations. Entertainment is a priority, but the courses also aim at inspiring guests with new ideas amidst the steam and the pots and pans.
The Crazy Jester
Capacity: 600 guests
“Den Galende Gøgler” (The Crazy Jester) is an authentic, travelling medieval inn. An entertaining troupe of weird characters serves gourmet food and drink in atmospheric settings, the choice of which is entirely up to you.
For example, you could choose the medieval castle of Voergaard, where Den Galende Gøgler sets up shop with restaurant facilities, tableware, entertainment and a large medieval tent with wooden tables, laid in medieval style, and decorated with carpets and skins and various other medieval props. This is a very special atmosphere and the tent is lit only by candles. It would be hard to find a more authentic medieval atmosphere than that created by Den Galende Gøgler.
The entertainment consists of amusing turns in the style of dinner theatre, music, and song and dance – all in keeping with ancient tradition. Den Galende Gøgler can also be hired for a whole day’s event with a medieval market in addition to the inn. Den Galende Gøgler is perfect for an unusual banquet or get-together event. An event in the medieval inn is a warm and informal experience, where the air echoes with the sound of fun and laughter.
